The Bold North Difference
When a hail storm moves through the south metro, Bold North Exteriors is on the road. We've responded to storm events across Dakota, Goodhue, and Rice Counties — from the overnight golf ball hail that hit Burnsville and Lakeville in July 2019 to the April 2026 plowable hail event that swept through Faribault and Rice County. We know how these events work, what the damage looks like, and exactly how to document it so your insurance claim gets approved for what it should.
The most important thing to understand about hail damage is that most of it is not visible from the ground. Granule loss, mat bruising, and cracked sealant lines look like nothing from your driveway — but they show up clearly on a proper roof inspection and represent real structural compromise that worsens every season it goes untreated. Left unaddressed, hail damage leads to accelerated shingle aging, moisture intrusion, and eventually interior leaks. A free inspection after a storm event costs you nothing and could save you thousands.
The insurance claim process is where most homeowners leave money on the table. We attend the adjuster inspection with you, bring our own documentation, and make sure the adjuster sees the full picture of what the storm actually did to your roof. Most homeowners are surprised by how much their policy covers when the damage is properly documented by someone who does this work every day. Once the claim is approved, we complete the repair or replacement with IKO Class 3 shingles — so your restored roof is more resilient than the one the storm hit.
Options we offer
Types of Storm Damage We Repair
Hail Damage
Hailstones crack shingle granules, bruise the asphalt mat, and compromise sealant lines — damage that's invisible from the street but accelerates shingle failure. We document hail damage with close-up photography that meets insurance adjuster standards.
Wind Damage
High winds lift shingles, break sealant bonds, and damage flashing around chimneys and vents. Wind-lifted shingles are immediate water intrusion risks. We repair and reseal or replace as needed.
Ice Dam Damage
Minnesota winters create ice dams along eaves that force water under shingles. We address both the immediate damage and the underlying ventilation issues that allow ice dams to form — so it doesn't happen again.
Emergency Tarping
When a storm creates immediate water intrusion risk, we tarp and secure the affected area to prevent interior damage while the full repair or replacement is being planned and scheduled.

Why Bold North
The Right Team For the Job
Same-Day Response
When hail hits, we're on the road. We prioritize storm response because early documentation is critical — both for preventing further damage and for building the strongest possible insurance claim.
Adjuster Expertise
We've worked with every major insurance carrier operating in Minnesota. We know what documentation they require and how to present damage so the adjuster approves the full scope of what the storm actually did.
IKO Class 3 on Every Restore
When we restore a storm-damaged roof, we use IKO Class 3 impact-resistant shingles as the standard — so your restored roof is more hail-resistant than the one that just got damaged.
What Homeowners Say
Don't just take our word for it - hear from real Minnesota homeowners who've experienced our no- pressure, transparent estimate process.
It was fantastic working with Jon and Bold North Exteriors. We had just a small job for him to do and he took the time to find the exact color match and made sure it was perfect. Communication was great and would highly recommend him anytime. Whenever we need roofing done in the future, Jon is the guy we will call.
Jen Wood
They did a good job with installing two new exterior doors. Good communication, on schedule, cleaned up properly afterward.
Dawn Packard
Jon from Bold North Exteriors delivered on a tricky project for us and was top notch! I would not hesitate to use him for future needs or to recommend him to anyone.

Common Questions
Storm Damage Repair FAQ
How do I know if my roof was damaged by the recent storm?
The honest answer is that you often can't tell from the ground. Hail damage shows up as granule loss, mat bruising, and compromised sealant lines that are only visible on close inspection from the roof itself. If a significant hail event affected your area — anything with hailstones over 1 inch in diameter — a free inspection is worth doing regardless of what you can see from the driveway.
How long do I have to file a storm damage insurance claim in Minnesota?
Minnesota homeowners typically have one year from the date of the storm event to file a claim. However, waiting reduces your documentation quality and gives the adjuster reason to attribute damage to normal wear rather than storm impact. We recommend getting inspected and filing as soon as possible after an event.
Do you attend the insurance adjuster inspection with me?
Yes — and this is one of the most valuable things we do. We bring our own photographic documentation and walk the adjuster through what we found. This step frequently results in significantly larger claim approvals than homeowners would receive on their own. We do this at no extra charge.
What happens if my insurance claim is denied?
If a claim is denied, we help you understand why and whether the denial is appropriate. We can provide additional documentation for an appeal, and in cases where the damage is clearly storm-related, we've helped homeowners successfully appeal initial denials. We advocate for our customers throughout the process.
