The Bold North Difference
A proper roof inspection goes further than most homeowners expect. We get on the roof — not just look at it from the driveway — and systematically assess shingle condition, granule loss, flashing integrity around every penetration, ridge and valley conditions, soffit and fascia condition, gutter attachment, and any signs of deck compromise or moisture intrusion. This is what a real inspection looks like, and it's what we provide at no charge to every homeowner who calls us.
After a major hail event, an inspection is especially important. Hail damage at 1 inch in diameter or larger fractures shingle granules, bruises the asphalt mat, and compromises the sealant lines that hold shingles together in wind. None of this is visible from the ground. Left unaddressed, hail damage accelerates shingle aging significantly — a roof that had 10 years of life left may have 3–5 after a significant hail event, and the damage compounds with every subsequent storm season. The inspection is how you know where you actually stand.
We provide every homeowner with a written inspection report and photos after every visit. If we find issues, we explain them clearly — what's failing, why, and what the options are. If everything looks good, we tell you that too. No created urgency, no phantom problems invented to sell a job. The inspection report is yours to keep regardless of whether you hire us for any work.
Options we offer
What We Inspect
Shingle Condition
We assess granule retention, mat integrity, sealant condition, cupping and curling, and any visible cracking or impact damage. This is where hail damage shows up — and where most contractors stop looking when they're inspecting from the ground.
Flashing & Penetrations
Every chimney, skylight, vent pipe, and roof-to-wall transition gets checked. Flashing failures are the leading cause of roof leaks in Minnesota and are often repairable before they cause interior damage.
Deck & Structure
Where we can assess it, we check for soft spots, moisture damage, and any compromise to the underlying deck structure — especially along eaves where ice dam damage concentrates.
Gutters, Fascia & Soffit
We check gutter attachment, downspout condition, fascia board integrity, and soffit ventilation — all factors that affect how your roof system performs through Minnesota's seasons.

It was fantastic working with Jon and Bold North Exteriors. We had just a small job for him to do and he took the time to find the exact color match and made sure it was perfect. Communication was great and would highly recommend him anytime. Whenever we need roofing done in the future, Jon is the guy we will call.
Jen Wood
They did a good job with installing two new exterior doors. Good communication, on schedule, cleaned up properly afterward.
Dawn Packard
Jon from Bold North Exteriors delivered on a tricky project for us and was top notch! I would not hesitate to use him for future needs or to recommend him to anyone.

Common Questions
Roof Inspections FAQ
Is the inspection really free with no obligation?
Yes — completely free, no strings attached. We inspect your roof, provide a written report with photos, give you our honest recommendation, and leave. Whether you hire us for any work is entirely your decision. We don't use the inspection as a pressure sales tactic.
How long does a roof inspection take?
A thorough roof inspection typically takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the size and complexity of your home. We then compile the report and follow up with you — usually within the same day or the following morning.
When should I get my roof inspected?
After any significant hail event affecting your area, after any visible storm damage, if you're noticing signs of water intrusion inside, before buying or selling a home, or if your roof is more than 15 years old and has never been professionally assessed. Annual inspections are also a good practice for older roofs.
Can I use the inspection report for an insurance claim?
Yes — our inspection documentation, including the photographic record of damage, is exactly the kind of evidence insurance adjusters need to approve a claim. If we find storm damage during an inspection, we can walk you through the claim filing process and attend the adjuster inspection with you.
